George Kourpias guided the IAM through some of our union’s most challenging times with dignity and grace. As IAM International President from 1989-1997, he led his members through national strikes, fought back against relentless attacks on workers, and created more educational opportunities through the expansion of W3 Education and Technology Center.
As a 67-year IAM member, George fought tirelessly for working people. That commitment to service continued into retirement. He was the founding president of the Alliance for Retired Americans, leading the way to protect Social Security and Medicare from privatization schemes.
He was just as passionate about raising money for Guide Dogs of America. No matter the role, George always gave everything he had, which is why we want to have this ride to honor his memory and contribute to one of his favorite charities.
