Drivers employed by Kennebec Valley Community Action Partners (KVCAP) in Augusta, ME voted to join the Machinists Union.
“On behalf of the IAM, I’d like to congratulate and welcome these new members into the IAM family,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President Jimmy Conigliaro Sr. “With the support of District 4 and the Eastern Territory, they can begin to improve their working lives as they negotiate a good IAM contract.”
The group of 17 drivers voted overwhelmingly for the IAM to improve their wages, working conditions and to have more influence in the services they provide passengers.
“This is a great first step for these new members and we look forward to assisting them as they move forward,” said IAM District 4 Directing Business Representative Rick Compher. “Now they will begin the important process of negotiating a first collective bargaining agreement to improve their working conditions and lives.”
KVCAP drivers provide transportation services to low-income Maine residents for medical appointments, drug treatment, work and other needs.
